Common Questions

Answers to everything you were about to ask.

From document checklists to security, pricing, and deadlines — here's what clients most want to know before working together.

For most individuals: photo ID, Social Security cards for all household members, all W-2s and 1099s, prior-year tax return, and any statements for mortgage interest (1098), investment activity (1099-B/DIV/INT), or student loans. For small businesses, add your P&L, balance sheet, and records of equipment purchases. After your consultation you'll receive a custom document checklist tailored to your situation.

Most individual returns are completed within 3–5 business days of receiving all required documents. Small business returns typically take 7–10 business days. During peak season (mid-March through April), turnaround may be slightly longer — early filers get priority.

Yes — the majority of clients work with us entirely remotely through our encrypted client portal, phone, and video calls. No drive required, no paper shuffle, and clients across all fifty states are welcome.

We walk through exactly what you owe and why, then discuss options: paying in full, setting up an IRS installment agreement, or — in certain cases — pursuing an Offer in Compromise. We also look for any legitimate strategies to reduce the amount owed through amended returns or planning for next year.

Absolutely. We prepare back taxes going up to six years, the IRS's standard lookback window. If you've received IRS correspondence about unfiled years, we can help you get current and often reduce penalties through first-time abatement or reasonable cause requests.

Individual returns start at $150 (federal + state, simple W-2). Standard returns with itemizing or self-employment are $385. Premium returns with multiple states, rental property, or complex investments are $750. Small business returns start at $450. See the Services page for full pricing details, or book a free consultation for a custom quote.

Yes. All document exchange happens through a bank-level encrypted client portal (never email attachments). Your data is stored in SOC 2–compliant systems, and we follow IRS Publication 4557 security standards for tax professionals. We never share your information with third parties.

The federal individual tax deadline is typically April 15th. If that falls on a weekend or holiday, it shifts to the next business day. Business returns (S-Corp, partnerships) are due March 15th. If you need more time, we can file a free extension that pushes your filing deadline to October 15th — note that extensions extend filing, not payment.

Yes — we prepare state returns for all fifty states. Multi-state filings (for people who moved or work across state lines) are handled as part of our Premium individual package.

We accept all major credit and debit cards, ACH bank transfer, and check. Payment is due upon completion, before e-filing. Small business clients on a monthly bookkeeping plan are billed on the 1st of each month.

As Enrolled Agents, we are federally licensed to represent you before the IRS. If a return we prepared is audited, we handle the correspondence and appearances on your behalf at a discounted rate. For notices that are simple (mismatched 1099s, minor math adjustments), response is included at no charge for returns we filed.

Quick questions from existing clients are always free — call or email anytime. Only full tax-planning sessions, which require analysis and projections, are billed at our consulting rate. We'd rather answer a three-minute question now than discover a missed opportunity next April.
